چکیده
This paper presents the design and experimental results of a continuous-time modulator for ADSL applications. Multibit nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) DAC pulse shaping is used to reduce clock jitter sensitivity. The nonzero excess loop delay problem in conventional continuous-time modulators is solved by our proposed architecture. A prototype third-order continuous-time modulator with 5-bit internal quantization was realized in a 0.5m double-poly triple-metal CMOS technology, with a chip area of 2.4 2.4 mm. Experimental results show that the modulator achieves 88-dB dynamic range, 84-dB SNR, and 83-dB SNDR over a 1.1-MHz signal bandwidth with an oversampling ratio of 16, while dissipating 62 mW from a 3.3-V supply.

A Time-Interleaved Continuous-Time Modulator With 20-MHz Signal Bandwidth
This paper presents the first implementation results for a time-interleaved continuous-time modulator. The derivation of the time-interleaved continuous-time modulator from a discrete-time modulator is presented. With various simplifications, the resulting modulator has only a single path of integrators, making it robust to DC offsets. A time-interleaved by 2 continuous-time third-order low-pas...
متن کاملTime-Mode Signal Quantization for Use in Sigma-Delta Modulators
The rapid scaling in modern CMOS technology has motivated the researchers to design new analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architectures that can properly work in lower supply voltage. An exchanging the data quantization procedure from the amplitude to the time domain, can be a promising alternative well adapt with the technology scaling. This paper is going to review the recent development in t...

Wireless and wireline communication applications demand A/D converters with MHz signal bandwidth and 14b or better resolution. Compared with switched-capacitor (SC) implementations, continuous-time (CT) Σ∆ modulators have the advantages of lower power consumption and intrinsic anti-alias filtering. Moreover, as the sampler is inside of the CT Σ∆ loop (see the upper half of Fig. 3.5.1), any samp...
متن کاملA Wideband High Dynamic Range Continuous-Time Sigma-Delta ADC for Wireless Applications
In recent years, the research toward the development of high speed and high resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) has been equally driven by the demand of high-speed wire line and wireless communication services. Delta-Sigma ADCs are widely used in wireless applications due to their oversampling and noise shaping characteristics. This thesis aims to design a continuous-time sigma-delta...
متن کاملA Power-Efficient Two-Channel Time-Interleaved Modulator for Broadband Applications
A two-channel time-interleaved second-order sigma-delta modulator for broadband applications including asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) is presented. The proposed two-channel modulator uses a single integrator channel which does not require additional active elements for the quantizer input generation, since the integrator outputs are directly used as the input of the quantizers. As ...
